For 8 years, Craig led Servants, a ministry within the slums of Asia. His postgrad research in International Development led to the publication The Urban Halo. Craig's second book, Subversive Jesus, was published by Zondervan in 2016.

On returning to Phnom Penh, she has been a passionate advocate for children and she enjoys using her amazing language skills to coordinate the translation of our resources into 23 languages (and counting…) Lakhina oversees the production of all our comic books and animations. She is also a keen soccer player and loves all kinds of Cambodian foods.

 Daly Gnou. Daly is known for his quiet, but wise presence. He is one of our senior Khmer leaders. Daly has a background of several years working in finance, having worked at Mercy Medical Hospital as an accountant. He is a hobby photographer and enjoys going to the gym and playing soccer. In his spare time he leads a small group at his church.

Mart-Jan van der Maas {shalom valley co-director}

Mart-Jan is a mechanical engineer by training, having worked as a project manager in the petrochemical and energy industries. More important to him is his passion for God. He lives in Cambodia together with his wife Talitha and their three children, Joy, Micha and Amy. Mart-Jan dreams of a camp filled with children, meeting Jesus for the first time, and joyfully worshipping together. His hobbies are photography and sailing.


Phearom Nak {shalom valley co-director}

Phearom has a twin brother and together they have an amazing story of survival and overcoming obstacles in life. You can watch that story here. Phearom’s gifts lie in the area of discipling youth and leadership. He previously led the Alongsiders movement in Cambodia and is now working with Mart-Jan to establish Shalom Valley camp. Phearom spent a year in Canada on an exchange program with the Mennonite Central Committee. His experience at a Canadian camp was deeply impactful.

Hitomi holds a Ph.D. from Fuller Theological Seminary in the field of contextualized theological education. Her background in education, curriculum design and creative inner healing work has included ministry among young people in the US, Japan and Cambodia. A native of Japan, Hitomi grew up in both Japan and the US. As a competitive swimmer who loves the water, her favorite memories are swimming with wild dolphins in Hawaii and sitting in outdoor hot springs in her Japanese hometown.

Phka is an experienced church mobilizer, having worked with church networks across Cambodia in partnership with OneHope, World Relief and Samaritan's Purse. Phka recently joined the Alongsiders team and is well known for his hilarious sense of humour and passionate story telling. He is married with three sons and enjoys playing table tennis, volleyball and football.

Lisa is Cambodian-Chinese and grew up in New Zealand. She has a background in non-profit governance and fundraising with Amnesty International and Child Rescue. She brings her considerable skills and experience in this area to Alongsiders by supporting our board members and fundraising efforts. Lisa is married to Erik, a Samoan-Kiwi and they are expecting their first child.

Phorn came to us after working as an animator for several years at another Christian NGO. As the first animator in our team, he began training others in the media team in animation skills and now leads our animation efforts. Phorn is the father of two boys and enjoys playing soccer competitively and singing karaoke.

Reaksmey started as a volunteer intern after seeing our animation team on Facebook and reaching out to us. She was keen to develop her artistic ability and drawing skills. Reaksmey quickly became part of the team and was hired as a junior animator. She now divides her time between drawing the backgrounds and characters for our animated training series, and managing our new app, The School of Destiny.

Pheaktra is our in-house IT specialist and keeps all our computers up to date and working well. Pheaktra is involved in a range of Alongsiders media projects including the comics, webtoons, animations and the new app, The School of Destiny. As an Alongsider himself, Pheaktra met and married Karuna, a fellow Alongsider.

Theara handles the Photoshop and InDesign work that goes into creating the comics used all over the world. He has become adept at working with multiple languages and fonts. Theara is also a former "little brother", who grew up to become an Alongsider himself. He runs a homework club for local kids out of his home. Theara is married to a fellow Alongsider and has two young sons.

As a young girl, Chenda’s life was deeply impacted by an Alongsider who came alongside her and helped her through her teenage years. Chenda later became an Alongsider herself and her passionate leadership skills led us to recruit her in a communications role. Today she helps support the movement in Cambodia and also oversees communication with hundreds of Alongsiders all over the country. She recently graduated with a degree in International Relations.

Ngechsor serves as office assistant and book keeper at our Phnom Penh headquarters. After work, she studies accounting at a local university. Now based in Singapore, Henna was born in Taiwan and grew up in a Christian family who passed on their values and faith. Henna graduated from the university of Taiwan with a major in banking and subsequently worked in accounting for 15 years. She has also put her language skills to good use as a private Chinese language tutor for 8 years. Henna loves flowers, delicious bread and long, relaxing walks.

Meera is an experienced corporate coach and former journalist, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In this process, she helps them to realize their potential to lead and fulfill God's purpose for each of them in Alongsiders. In all of this her passion remains people and building relationships.

Bunhak is one of the original “little brothers” who grew up to become an Alongsider himself. He faithfully serves at the Alongsiders International headquarters in Phnom Penh by keeping the place safe at night, fixing any maintenance issues and making all kinds of beautiful recycled wood furniture. Bunhak is a talented craftsman. He married a fellow Alongsider and they recently had their first baby.

Srey Mom is famous for her delicious cooking which we enjoy twice a week as a team at the office lunch. We still fondly remember the time she cooked stewed dog meat without telling us what we were eating. Srey Mom has four teenage children and works hard to support her family. Nay escaped Cambodia's Khmer Rouge as a child, relocating to New Zealand as a young refugee. From an early age, she sensed God calling her back to serve her own people, leading to many years of incarnational ministry in Cambodian slums.  She has pioneered ministries among women trapped in prostitution, as well as served as a mentor and Spiritual Director to many young leaders. She is a qualified teacher, and mother to the noisiest kids in Phnom Penh, Jayden and Micah.

Andy is a talented wordsmith and photographer who has been our main blogger and the author of our first book, The Alongsiders Story. Andy worked in Cambodia helping young people transition from orphanages to living in the community. Now based in the US, Andy is a teacher at a local New Mexico high school. He loves cooking food from scratch - especially New Mexican enchiladas and green chile stew. Andy is happily married to Hitomi and together they have three daughters.
